There is a lot more happening at Quincy Community Theatre than what audiences see from their seats, and today the Class of 2027 got to experience it firsthand!
QCT Executive Director Burgundy Hill welcomed our students for a behind-the-scenes tour and an inside look at the business of operating a community theatre.
And when we say behind the scenes, we mean it! Our students got to explore the spaces where the magic is created, see what happens beyond the audience’s view, and even walk on stage themselves. It was an incredible opportunity to experience the theatre from an entirely different perspective and better understand the amount of work that goes into every production.
Burgundy walked the class through how the theatre operates, from the planning and preparation behind each production to the people, resources, and coordination required to make it all happen. She also shared stories about some of QCT’s largest productions and the challenges that come with operating a theatre.
The conversation included some of the most difficult experiences Burgundy and the theatre have navigated, including the pandemic, and how those challenges have shaped the organization. She also gave students a look at the unique responsibilities of leading a nonprofit, where financial sustainability, community support, and fulfilling the organization’s mission all have to work together.
For our students, it was another opportunity to see that business and entrepreneurship take many different forms. Whether you’re operating a traditional business or leading a nonprofit, planning, financial management, relationships, and the ability to adapt are essential.
A huge thank you to Burgundy and the entire Quincy Community Theatre team for welcoming our class and sharing the work that happens both on and off the stage!
This tour was especially timely for the Class of 2027, but we’re keeping the reason under wraps for just a little longer. Stay tuned for our upcoming Class Business announcement!
