On May 5, 2026, the Daviess County CEO Cohort welcomed Mike DeCoursey, Sales Associate for Home and Harvest, for an inspiring discussion centered on networking, personal growth, and building meaningful relationships. In addition to his work in real estate, Mike is also a full-time teacher at Barr-Reeve High School, bringing a unique perspective and passion for educating others. Although Home and Harvest is still relatively new to the real estate industry, the company, founded by Chris Craig, is quickly establishing itself as a business committed to setting high standards and creating strong community connections.
Throughout his presentation, Mike emphasized the importance of networking and stepping outside of one’s comfort zone. Sharing a quote from Pat McAfee, “Increase your network, increase your net worth,” he encouraged students to intentionally connect with others and develop strong communication skills. He discussed how many people struggle with performance anxiety and fear of public speaking, but growth often comes through doing uncomfortable things and challenging yourself.
He encouraged the cohort to “put your pride in your pocket” and remain teachable throughout life. Drawing from both his teaching and real estate experiences, he explained that one of the skills that made transitioning into real estate sales easier was his ability to walk people through processes and educate them along the way. He stressed the importance of having “the heart of a teacher,” noting that success often comes from helping adults understand important decisions and making them feel comfortable throughout the process.
The discussion also focused on investing, learning from mistakes, and finding mentors who are willing to share knowledge and guidance. Mike reminded students not to overlook the small things and fundamentals, explaining that consistent effort and attention to detail often separate successful people from the rest. He also challenged the group to discover their own “secret sauce” — the unique qualities, passions, and strengths that make them stand out.
