On February 5, the Daviess County CEO Cohort spent an inspiring and educational day in Bloomington touring Indiana University Memorial Stadium and visiting the Kelley School of Business.
The day began with a tour of the iconic Memorial Stadium, where students gained insight into the wide range of opportunities available to student-athletes and the vibrant academic and social environment that surrounds campus life. The experience gave the cohort a firsthand look at the energy, pride, and tradition that define Indiana University.
Following the stadium tour, the group participated in a presentation and Q&A session with Alex Bruce, Director of Admissions at the Kelley School of Business. Alex shared valuable advice about college preparation, leadership development, and career readiness. He encouraged students to immerse themselves in student organizations and campus activities, serve on committees to build leadership skills, and intentionally connect with peers and mentors—reminding them that “people are people too.”
Students were challenged to dedicate time for personal reflection in order to grow both personally and professionally, take every opportunity to network and build meaningful connections, and always be working on their elevator pitch. Alex emphasized the importance of creating your own path, leaning on others for support, surrounding yourself with like-minded individuals, and continually asking, “What is it like to work there?” He also highlighted the importance of understanding ROI (return on investment) when making college and career decisions.
The visit left the cohort inspired, motivated, and better informed about college life and future career pathways. A heartfelt thank you to Alex Bruce for his time, insight, and dedication in making this interactive and memorable experience possible.
